Maitland Floods, February 1955

In late February 1955, the Hunter Valley region of NSW was struck by floods that killed 25 people, washed away 58 homes and destroyed crops and livestock. The flood waters created an inland sea which, at its peak, equalled the size of England and Wales. The town of Maitland was the worst hit, and 2180 homes were inundated with water.
